PENN'S WOODS PAINTERS
1999 COMMUNITY SERVICE
PROJECT
Penn's Woods Painters chose as their 1999 summer comminity project to paint an 83 foot
long, 9 feet high mural for Cumberland County Children & Youth Services, in Carlisle,
Pennsylvania. The mural depicts a path traveling through the fours seasons of
Winter, Fall, Spring and Summer ending at a home under a rainbow, with a family waiting .

The mural, which features patterns by Pat Olson took over 400 painting hours to
complete. Twenty-seven volunteers from Penn's Woods Painters dedicated evening and weekend
time to complete this labor of love. The paint (and there was a lot needed) was generously
donated by Deco-Art. Donations of supplies were also made by the local businesses of
Lowe's hardware, Sherwin Williams Paint, Ben Franklin and Domino's Pizza (all that
painting makes you hungry).
Taking on a challenge this big brought our members closer together, some were
even a little sad as we approached completion. An unexpected benifit of this project was
that it proved to be a great advertisment for our chapter as it generated both newspaper
and television coverage. Check out below for pictures of the completed mural. Hope
you enjoy them as much as we did painting them.
