PAT MEYERS

Pat Meyers has been a member of Penn's Woods Painters since its inception — she is one 11 current charter members who still belong to the chapter.  Before retiring, she was a tax collector for the Middle Paxton Township for 12 years and a rural mail carrier in the Dauphin area for 15 years.  She currently lives in Dauphin, PA with her assorted “fur” children which include a horse, three dogs and two cats.

Pat has been painting since 1985, when she opened a gift shop in an old barn, specializing in primitive and folk art items.Although she has tried painting on fabric and porcelain, she still prefers to paint on wood surfaces. She enjoys finding old and unusual pieces, especially functional pieces that can be used for storage. Her favorite style of painting is Americana and primitive. She lists her favorite teachers as Helen Jeglic, Helan Barrick and Carol Payne.

Pat, who turns 75 in July (she shares a birthday with Barb Miller), loves the outdoors. She takes a break from painting during hunting season — she has been an avid deer hunter all her life.

A few years ago Pat’s family gave her a wonderful surprise for her birthday — a hot air balloon ride!   They took off from Hershey and ended up in a corn field near Elizabethtown 1 1/2 hours later. She remembers the day as “delightful”  and describes the experience as “being one with the wind.”

Pat has attended four national conventions:Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Nashville and Charlotte. However, she likes attending HOOT (Heart of Ohio Tole) because of the convenience it affords being under one roof. When asked what she saw as the biggest change in the PWP of 15 years ago, Pat was quick to respond — “Growth. We knew everyone in the chapter when meetings were limited to about 20 people. Now that’s not necessarily the case.”She was quick to add, however, that “the chapter is improving all the time. We’re always broadening our scope in what we’re doing.”
